Nobel Prize Winners from India

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan becomes the ninth person of Indian origin or connection to win the coveted Nobel Prize. Rabindranath Tagore was the first Indian to win the Nobel Prize, when he was honoured for his contribution to literature in 1913.
Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is a 1/3 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry. He is from United Kingdom and was born in 1952 in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, India.
He got the prize for studies of the structure and function of the ribosome.
